Probate and Real Estate How long will it take?

Losing a loved one can be a difficult time. With the support of your family and friends, it is my hope in time that you find comfort.

At some point in the coming months, you may find yourself going through the probate process. Often the first two questions asked when faced with the probate process are: What is probate? How long will it take?

Probate = Is the legal process of gathering the assets of a deceased person to pay their remaining debts and distribute the balance of their assets to their heirs or beneficiaries.

The Probate Timeline = Can span from several months to several years, depending upon the complexity of the case. Below is an illustrative timeline of the probate process broken out by the 3 phases of probate. Phase 1 Appointment, Phase 2 Administrative, Phase 3 Closing

The above information is in no way legal or financial advice and should be used only as a reference to help understand the probate process and how it relates to Real Estate. If you are in need of legal or financial advice about probate I encourage you to seek a licensed lawyer or accountant who specializes in probate.
